I highly recommend the online Ornithology courses that Cornell University offers through the Bird Academy. The courses are very well laid out and can be taken at your own speed. I am in it the midst of two — a bird identification course (Be a Better Birder) and the bird biology course (Comprehensive Bird Biology). The later has an accompanying textbook (Handbook for Bird Biology) which is a fantastic resource.
